Broccoli: A Field Guide
Broccoli is proof that God loves us and wants us to be healthy.
Before we knew the term “superfoods,” there was broccoli. Packed with vitamins C and K, broccoli grows in many shapes, including a full head (‘Calabrese’), thin sprouts, and loose, bright purple florets (common in Europe). Pointed, light green ‘Romanesco’ is an Italian favorite. Plant broccoli near other brassicas. Look for heat-tolerant varieties, such as ‘Flash’, and for hybrids with active side-shoot production. Keep tomatoes, strawberries, and beans away; they can inhibit broccoli’s growth.
