Architect Visit: Midcentury Modern in Wellfleet by Hayden Walling

August 17, 2009

Marcel Breuer, Serge Chermayeff, Walter Gropius, and Eero Saarinan all built houses on outer Cape Cod in the fifties and sixties. Painter James Lechay (1907–2001) moved in the same rarefied, intellect-heavy circles; his house, designed by Hayden Walling, remains one of the best examples of modest Bauhaus architecture in town.
