This holiday season, we hope you’ll also consider supporting nonprofits that are working to help our planet and the animals who share it with us. Here are four such organizations, suggested by contributor Kendra Wilson:

  • Audubon Lights Out Program: advocates for the minimizing of nighttime lighting so that birds, bats, insects can go about their business.
  • Green City Force: trains young people in the New York City Housing Authority for careers in green infrastructure.
  • Buglife (UK): a conservation group dedicated arthropods.
  • Homegrown National Park: mission to increase biodiversity at the grassroots level—where we work and live.
