Home for the Holidays: Gifts from 10 Favorite Remodelista/Gardenista Shops and Makers

December 4, 2023

Welcome to our roundup of gifts for the holidays from some of our favorite makers and shops. Without further ado, here’s our selection:

‘Tis the Season

Above: This holiday season, Terrain introduces the Little Living Tree ($98), a miniature fresh black hill spruce tree, which arrives in a decorative waxed canvas container with a set of battery-powered Stargazer string lights and 12 storybook-inspired Amanita muscaria mushrooms on wires to affix to the branches.

Above: Designed by Netherlands-based Floris Hovers, the beechwood Modern Nativity Scene ($69 from Gessato) for Ikonic includes the traditional suite of crèche figures and comes in a wooden box that turns into a barn and a roof.

Stay Warm

Above: We’re coveting this festive blue-green plaid throw designed by Swedish-born, NYC-based Emma Harling for American wool heritage brand Chatham. Made of 35 percent mohair and 65 percent merino wool, the Chatham x Emma Harling Wool Throw is $395 from Available Items.
Above: A Remodelista favorite, 100 percent organic cotton pajamas from LA-based Domi are always a good idea around the holidays. We like the Gilda Set ($195); as Domi says,”This classic little number has been with us since the very beginning; taking our cues from the guys, we adjusted it a little bit here, a little bit there to make it perfect for the girls.”
Above: On our wish lists: Classic Cashmere Gloves ($135) with hand stitching from NY-based woolens expert Meg Cohen.

Set the Mood with Subtle Lighting

Above:  We’re eyeing Easy Peasy, a collection of portable, rechargeable LED table lamps designed by Luca Nichetto for Italian lighting brand Lodes. Traditional Venetian blown glass is made modern with an array of color combinations; they’re currently on sale for $476 from Lumens.
Above: Genius lighting designer David Weeks is always on our list; one of our favorites is his Boi Sconce, which subtly filters light to allow for directional illumination. As Weeks says, “Boi brightens up serious design with an iconic form that gives an ebullient nod to 1960s pop design.” Contact David Weeks Studio directly for ordering info.

À Table!

Above: From Alabama Sawyer, a Birmingham-based studio dedicated to modern, environmentally sustainable products crafted from fallen trees, the limited-edition Hexagon Wood Bread Box adds a hint of luxury to the home kitchen; $295 from Alabama Sawyer.
Above: From Ode to Things, a Remodelista favorite, the marble Vincent Van Duysen Slate ($450-$480) is designed for displaying fine cheeses to elevate the cocktail hour.

Cleanup Time

Above: The made-in-France 100 percent stonewashed Linge Particulier Linen Dish Towel ($28) doubles as an apron (genius!). It’s available in an array of colors and patterns for $28 from Nannie Inez.
Stylish composting? It&#8\2\17;s possible with Alabama Sawyer&#8\2\17;s wooden Compost Bin (\$\195) featuring a lightweight, removable stainless steel interior. Plus, it&#8\2\17;s made from wood salvaged from downed trees, adding to its eco cred.
