Husband/wife team Eric and Silvina Blasen of Blasen Landscape Architecture are based in the small Northern California town of San Anselmo in Marin County and have worked with notable architects such as Herzog & de Meuron, Deborah Berke, Aidlin Darling, and Ann Fougeron. For a steep, irregularly angled lot in San Francisco, the Blasens created a graphic urban garden with opportunities for playing, chasing, rolling, sliding (on a piece of cardboard), and rope climbing, all in keeping with the minimalist modern architecture of the existing home. The project won a 2010 Professional Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects; photography by Marion Brenner.
