Object of Desire: A Folding Canvas Rocking Chair from Japan

To be filed under “modern classics.” From Japan, a folding canvas rocking chair remains as covetable as in 1958, when designer Takashi Nii created it. A permanent resident of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, it also deserves a spot on any porch or patio:

Above: The Ny Rocking Chair has a steel frame and handles of solid beechwood; currently old out at Spartan Shop, it is also available for $720 from Canoe.

Above: The chair is also available in more colors: Blue, orange, and white canvas versions of the Ny Rocking Chair are available from Canoe for $720 apiece. The camel color is available at Brook Farm General Store.
Above: The collapsible chair’s dimensions, when open, are 24 inches wide by 36 inches tall.
