The Perfect Picnic Basket

June 19, 2013

When it comes to picnic baskets, I’m a traditionalist (think wicker). The Danish-designed New Norm Multi-Basket has me reconsidering. Load it up for an afternoon snack at the beach, drop the handle and use it as a serving tray for dining alfresco in the garden, or bring it indoors to use as a kitchen condiment holder in the winter. This could be the perfect picnic basket.

Above: The New Norm Multi-Basket from Danish brand Menu is a hybrid between a tray and a basket. Fold the handle down to the side to serve; lock it into place to carry; $150 at the A+R Store.

Above: Sealed to the elements (unlike my wicker basket, no sand is going to sift through and settle into the food; really, there is nothing romantic about sand-covered cheese), the New Norm Multi-Basket is a perfect beach picnic companion.

Above: The New Norm Multi-Basket includes two air-tight containers with bamboo lids that can double as serving plates and cutting boards. Two cooling pads sized to fit the containers are also included.  Simply keep in the freezer and then pop into the containers to keep food cool.  There is also third fitted piece: an open topped liner made of synthetic food-grade felt that can be cleaned in the dishwasher.

Above: The fitted containers can be removed to create one large basket for a multitude of uses.

Above: Lack winter storage space for your summer picnic basket? The New Norm Multi-Basket can migrate indoors to be used in the kitchen in the winter months.

Planning your perfect picnic? Here’s more to inspire you.
