Clematis integrifolia ‘Arabella’

If you’re looking for a trouble-free, heavy-blooming companion to Roses or shrubs, ‘Arabella’ is the one!

A splendid late-flowering Clematis with more blooms per inch than most others can even dream of, ‘Arabella’ is a must-have for the Rose garden, shrub border, trellis, or pergola. You will love the 4 to 5 solid months of flowers each year, not to mention the easy, non-clinging habit!

These blooms are pure azure-blue, a difficult color to find in the garden but one that complements just about all other shades beautifully, from reds to yellows and oranges, and even pinks. The flowers measure 2 to 3 inches across and often appear to be bicolored, so lushly do their central cream-colored anthers grow! ‘Arabella’ is one of the most floriferous of all Clematis, and you will admire its staying power as other varieties bloom and then rest, or offer a considerably shorter season of color.

This clumping climber is non-clinging, so you can position it exactly as you like. It reaches about 6 feet high and 5 feet wide, and is useful as a groundcover as well, scrambling over bare earth to offer cover-up beauty for those unsightly spots! (It’s particularly effective at “hiding” a tree stump or turning the area surrounding a freestanding spigot into a floral paradise.)

Pair ‘Arabella’ with just about any other Clematis, from true blue ‘Will Goodwin’ to rich red ‘Niobe’. Or let it thread its way through your Roses, extending the season of color all summer and into fall!

Give ‘Arabella’ sun for its top growth and shade for its roots, mulching the plant well to keep the soil temperature and moisture level consistent. Very cold-hardy, this Clematis is not fussy about soil type provided the drainage is good. Zones 4-9. Pruning Group 3.
