Description from David Austin Roses
The largest flowered and most spectacular of the old roses. The blooms are very full, with many closely packed petals. They have a unique formation, being very flat, so that they have a “˜sliced-off’ appearance. The colour is rich crimson with a tint of purple as the flowers age. There is a light fragrance. “˜Charles de Mills’ has few thorns and forms an attractive shrub with upright, arching growth – it may benefit from some support. It is extremely healthy, very reliable and hardy. Introduced in about 1790. 5 x 4ft.
