Description from Kaufmann Mercantile
The DeWit hand shovel is crafted in a small town in the Netherlands by a family company that goes back five generations. Because most trowels aren’t sharpened from top to bottom, they’re harder on the wrists and make for a rather aggressive digging style.
This trowel is made of Swedish hand-forged boron steel and has a sharp edge from top to bottom, slicing through the soil and easing the frustrations of gardeners.
The shovel’s ash wood handle is made in Slovakia, just off the Ukraine border, with durable, Forest Stewardship Council-approved wood (meaning that it isn’t from protected forests). Ash is tough and strong but also elastic and easy on the hands.
The wooden handle from Slovakia and the Swedish-made roll-forged steel are then crafted into the trowel by the DeWit blacksmiths using trade secrets loyally kept since 1893. Despite the advancements in the functionality of the trowel, it still has the beauty of an antique tool, much like the originals produced in the early days of the company’s existence.
