Description from Kaufmann Mercantile
Enamelware lunch container with wide opening. Made with sturdy, unbreakable porcelain enamel. Tight-fitting lid with a metal clasp and handle. Available in 3.2 and 4.2 Cups. Made in Austria.
This enamel lunch container is sturdy and safe for food, with timeless good looks, which you’ll need since enamelware is likely to last a lifetime. Despite its milky white finish, porcelain enamel is tough, combing the best properties of glass and steel. It is non-porous, won’t break, is scratch resistant, doesn’t harbor bacteria (or off-smells), and won’t affect the taste of your food or leech random chemicals into it (BPA from plastic, we’re looking at you).
It also has a nice, tight-fitting lid with a stainless steel clasp and handle. A rubber seal keeps soups and sauces from leaking, and the container can be put on the stove top for reheating.
The Austrian company that makes this container has been specializing in porcelain enamel for over 80 years. Besides making these handsome devils, they’re also the go-to company for the road signs of sea salt-whipped Italian towns, and other industrial goods that need to withstand high heat or the elements. Lest you think 80 is a bit young, the company started 461 years ago in 1550 as a pan-making firm.
This enamel container is made from natural raw materials (namely: glass, a potassium compound and metal oxide). The company uses their own hydroelectric power plants to generate the heat to make their enamelware, and reuses the heat three times over to save even more energy.
