A hybrid mahonia still fairly rare in the US, but especially of interest to gardeners with shade and deer! Scented yellow blooms arrive in late autumn, earlier than other mahonias, followed by blue-black berries. Leaves are evergreen, glossy and spiny and the growth habit is bushy and upright. 'Underway' possibly prefers slightly more moisture during the summer. Best in part shade.
