Solidly constructed of cast iron, this design combines a storage cup for household matches, as well as a surface on which to strike them. The strike works with all “strike anywhere” wooden matches–it will not work with safety matches. Place it conveniently on a mantle for fireplace use, where it will also lend a sculptural presence. The surface treatment is a traditional Japanese lacquer treatment known as urushi which prevents rust.
