Description from Josh's Frogs
Pellaea rotundifolia ‘Button Fern’ is a great little fern that is native to New Zealand. It has unique foliage that provides a nice variety to traditional ferns. It is a fairly small fern that can grow fronds (stems) up to 10” long that are lined with large, round, dark green button shaped leaves. It is slow growing and should not reach more than 12” in height and width. The Button Fern prefers less water than most ferns and the topsoil should be allowed to dry out between waterings. It does not appreciate direct light.
- USDA Hardiness Zones 8-10
Container Gardens/Terrariums/Houseplant:
This fern is popular as a house plant and easy to care for due to its low watering needs. This plant does great in pots and would also be suitable for a hanging basket. Likewise, it will do fine in any non-humid of overly wet terrariums of moderate size. It will get too large for small container gardens.
Josh’s Frogs offers a wide variety of glass terrariums, container garden soils, drainage layers and other supplies for all of your indoor gardening needs.
