woven in the oaxacan town of pinotepa de don luis, the thread from which these fabrics are woven are colored using a combination of dyes know as the ‘magical colors of oaxaca’: grana cochinilla (red, from the beetles that grow on the native cactus), caracol púrpura (lavender dye extracted meticulously extracted from sea snails) + añil (indigo from local plants).
