Description from Schoolhouse Electric
Science meets beauty in this shapely glass radiometer. Invented in 1873 by Sir William Crookes, the radiometer is powered solely by the sun: The black vanes absorb light while the silver reflect it. This difference in temperature causes the gas molecules within the partially vacuum-sealed bulb to move, in turn rotating the vanes. Available in two sizes. Handblown in Germany.
