Description from Uncommon Goods
This tough yet comfortable rug is woven from reclaimed yarn and bicycle tire inner tubes.
You might associate bikes with the great outdoors, but designer Tricia Wright has figured out how to use traditional artistry to give retired bike components a home indoors. She starts with discarded bicycle tire tubes, gathered from bike shops in her area, and yarn scraps reclaimed from industrial production and then hand-dyed. Those elements are skillfully woven together on a traditional loom, creating a mat that may be the perfect combination of Old World and New. Besides being “waste negative” (removing waste from the environment, rather than adding to it), the tubes compress gently under your feet, providing a surface that is extremely durable and surprisingly comfortable. Whether you park it at the front door, by your bed, at the kitchen sink or in the bathroom, your feet (and your planet) will thank you. Made in San Francisco, California.
