Description from Wind & Weather
Our Staghorn Ferns (Platycerium bifucatum) are grown from offsets in greenhouses in Southern California. These ferns are mounted on cedar plaques so they are ready to hang on walls thereby utilizing available wall space to add a fascinating plant in an unusual space.
Staghorn Ferns are among the most interesting and unusual plants on earth. Their common name comes from their close resemblance to the antlers on the head of a buck. Exotic and easy to grow, they provide an artistic conversation piece and horticultural focal point, whether grown inside the home near a window or outside in a brightly lit patio. Staghorn ferns like fresh air movement and require regular watering with temperatures above 40° F (below that, move to house or garage until danger from cold is past). To water, soak or thoroughly wet the moss behind the fern as the moss begins to dry out.
As your stag grows to mature size it may send out vegetative offsets or ‘pups’, forming a clump that can be separated or divided into smaller clumps or individual plants. Staghorn Fern on 12″ cedar board.
