Description from Prairie Moon Nursery
Lupinus perennis
New in potted trays! Wild Lupine blooms profusely in spikes that make it a popular choice for gardens or restorations with dry to sandy soils. This legume is essential to the life cycle of the Karner Blue butterfly, a federally-endangered species native to the Great Lakes region. Native Lupine is a spring ephemeral; it will grow and bloom in the spring and then go dormant by mid-summer so plan for summer and fall-blooming plants nearby in a garden to fill in where the Lupine is asleep.

This is a legume species (member of the pea family). Most legumes harbor beneficial bacteria called rhizobia on their roots. Prairie Moon provides genus-specific strains of this bacterium called inoculum for legume seed free of charge with the purchase of legume seed. To properly inoculate your legume seed prior to planting, follow germination code I to the right.
Dormant bare-root plants ship during optimal transplanting season: Fall (October). Potted plants come in trays of 38 and ship when all plants in the tray are well-rooted and transit-ready, typcially mid-May to early-June.
Seeds/Packet : 40
