When LA-based landscape designer Naomi Sanders was tapped to overhaul the garden of a 1920's Hollywood home, she created a 2-part plan: new hardscaping, and a reduced plant color palette. The Before and After photos tell the story.

Before (Streetside)

The original street-side garden had a mix of low-maintainance, drought-tolerant plants.

After (Streetside)

Sanders kept the Mediterranean plants as well as a Japanese  privet hedge, and simplified the plant palette.

Inside the fence, a path of broken flagstone pavers led to a concrete front stoop.

Before (Front Courtyard)

The flagstone pavers were replaced with concrete pavers, matching the color to the stoop.

After (Front Courtyard)

The white, green, and red palette is accented by black planters that flank the front door.

A pair of Sol y Luna armless armchairs sit in the corner of the courtyard.

Red accents in the courtyard include Japanese maple tree leaves, pomegranate fruit, and fuschia flowers.

Before (Backyard)

An ornate fountain was surrounded by a rose garden and English dwarf boxwood.

After (Backyard)

The fountain is connected by new concrete pavers to the back patio and the rest of the backyard.
