Come with us on a tour of landscape architect Stephen Stimson's award-winning 2017 project, Northeast Harbor, a Restoration on Mount Desert Island. Formerly owned by Charles William Eliot, the sprawling estate was upgraded by Stimson's firm with a focus on lost landscapes.

After crossing a granite bridge, a driveway leads to a carriage house and the main house.

The dwellings are embedded in a grove of red maples and native birches.

A small play area connects to woodland trails.

From the play area, a mossy trail winds past a woodland overlook.

A steel wall blends into the natural surroundings.

Deciduous and evergreen trees border a granite path.

Stimson's firm reintroduced red maple wetlands.

A footbridge crosses a swale garden.

The granite used throughout the site was locally sourced in Maine, and through Swensen Granite Works.
